“Everyday sees humanity more victorious in the struggle with space and time.”- Guglielmo Marconi
Inspiration
Guglielmo Marconi, the “Father of Radio”, always held a deep interest between the entanglement of physical sciences and electricity, most importantly how their relationship could be applied to transmit thought itself through radio. Intrigued by the works of Heinrich Hertz, he set out to make the possibility of sending messages without the need of telegraph wires into a reality. After succeeding in a series of small scale experiments at his father’s country estate, Marconi sent the first wireless communication across the English Channel. Soon after he transmitted the first transatlantic radio signal, a distance of over 2000 miles. Marconi’s demonstrations were considered groundbreaking, at the time it defied the scientific assumption that radio waves couldn’t be broadcasted beyond the horizon of Earth’s curvature. It was clear, in the new era thought itself would be transmitted through radio.
The Gateway to Everything
According to the OnGo alliance, as of March 2022 there were about 208,000 CBRS base station devices (CBSDs) deployed in the CBRS band- a 100% increase over the previous year. A dry analysis of CBRS radio deployments across existing decentralized wireless protocols amounts to around 9,000 radios- a number which will grow linearly in the coming quarters due to favorable incentive alignments and regulatory tailwinds.
A key theme behind XNET’s journey in connecting the unconnected is interoperability. With this theme and the itch to bridge the broader CBRS landscape, the XG1 Marconi was born. Currently the Marconi gateway package allows all CBRS radio owners, private LTE, and wireless internet service providers to add any Baicells Neutrino 430, Baicells Nova 430, Baicells Nova 436Q, and BLiNQ FW300i radios onto the XNET network- with more radio support on the roadmap. The Marconi gateway package will include the gateway, pre-installed XCore software, one year of SAS registration, and unlimited software/technical support. The gateway supports one radio as of now, but according to our master builder, Alex Luebke, “multiple devices on a single Marconi is not too far away.” XNET has made radio conversion a seamless process- simply plug and play, reconfiguration is practically instant.
Our emphasis remains on focusing on the needs of our customers, tier-1 operators, so if you are interested in bringing your CBRS radio onto the XNET network please use the Marconi tool to ensure you are within our cluster footprint. This tool also enables you to visualize current rewards structures.
If you have any moonshot ideas that leverage the XG1 Marconi please don’t be shy to submit a quick proposal through our Jetpack grants program.
